1. How do I book a session with you?

Simply use the booking form on the Drum Studio page. Select your recording date, pay a 50% deposit via PayPal, and I will email you booking confirmation of the session within 24hrs.

2. What do you charge?

£200/track (up to 4 mins, longer songs can be discussed).

3a. How can I pay the deposit?

Follow the booking form instructions to PayPal where it will prompt you to pay the £100 deposit. This method is safe and secure via PayPal, we don’t deal with, or store any of your financial details.

3b. How do I pay the balance?

PayPal will store my details once you’ve made the deposit payment, so you can simply transfer to this account again (please select the ‘Friends & Family’ option). Or you can transfer via BACS (I will email you details). Invoices and Receipts are available.

4. Why do I need to pay a deposit?

I am very busy and this secures the date for you in my diary so you have my full attention for the entire process which will hopefully result in same-day track delivery.

5. What’s your turnaround time?

When you select a recording date using the booking form, I book myself for that entire day to focus on your track(s). The video call helps make sure we’re on the same page in terms of concepts, parts, fills, sounds, etc to help the recording process run smoothly and quickly. The idea is you have your final drum track(s) by the end of the day.

6. What do you need from me?

  • Please send a rough mix of your song (Wav/mp3 (128kpbs min)

  • Multi-tracks are preferable if you have multiple instruments laid down already. This helps me create my own headphone mix for playing along to. Don’t worry if you don’t have separate stems.

  • The tempo

  • A tempo map of any tempo changes (if applicable)

  • A time signature map of any time signature changes (if applicable). I use Logic, this information is usually included in file bounces, or a tempo file can be created.

  • Any reference tracks you are thinking vibe/parts/sound wise as your influence for the song.

7. What sample rates do you record in?

I record 24bit at 48kHz, but I can record at 44.1kHz or 96kHz (12 tracks maximum).

8. How many files will I receive?

You will receive 12 mono files, 2 stereo files (overheads & room mics), and a stereo bounce of the whole kit with some gentle processing.

9. How many revisions do I get?

The idea of the video call is to remove the need for revisions. By communicating effectively before I record I’m confident we can work out exact parts (which I will write down) so you get the perfect take the first time. I usually do an alternative take anyway for good measure and we can select the best parts from those two. I will then either re-record the entire song or comp the two takes together for you.

10. Do you offer a discount for multiple songs?

Yes, please send me an email to discuss this to TheEdThorne@gmail.com

11. Can you video the recording session?

Yes, as a YouTuber I have a good lighting set-up, a Nikon HD1080p full-frame camera, and two 4k GoPro 9s, offering three angles at a time (potentially 6 if I do two takes). This is chargeable at an additional £50.

12. What equipment (mics, preamps, interfaces) do you use?

Please watch my studio tour video.

13. Where can I hear/see examples of your playing/studio sounds?

Audio examples can be found at the bottom of the main Drum Studio page.

Also, download free drum loops from my Loop Library page.

14. Can you replicate what I’ve programmed?

Most likely, this may depend on how crazy the parts are - steady now my friend ;-)

15. What musical styles are your forté?

Rock, Pop, Punk, Indie. If you have a song outside of these genres I can recommend someone specialising in these other styles. There’s no point in me telling you I can authentically play hip-hop and Latin music when, although, technically I can, these aren’t my most fluid styles. I don’t want to waste your time or my time selling something I can’t execute. Although, I’m always up for a challenge so we can always try :-)

16. What is your cancellation policy?

If for whatever reason I can’t make a session or I need to cancel a session, the deposit can either be held and transferred to the next available date or returned in full.

If you cancel a session within 48 hours the deposit is lost. If you need to move a session and give me more than 48 hours’ notice, the deposit will be transferred to the new date (subject to availability). If I can’t make the alternative date, the deposit will be returned in full.

17. Is my deposit refundable?

Please see answers to questions 15 and 16.

18. What if I’m not happy with your recordings?

I’m confident with the correct communication throughout this process this won’t be the case, but if on the off chance this does happen, you won’t be required to pay the final balance. It must be noted that at this point you won’t have the final stems. They are only transferred upon full payment.

Assuming you have arrived at this decision during the course of the day working with me, the deposit is non-refundable at this stage.

19. Can I book you for live shows?

Yes, absolutely, I have been playing live shows for 25 years and I still love it! I can only accept paid work.

20. I still have more questions, can I contact you?

That’s great, and yes, absolutely. Please email me at TheEdThorne@gmail.com
