TERMS & CONDITIONS

My goal is to create a comfortable environment where we can communicate effectively to achieve the best possible results for your music. Outlined below are some easy-to-implement requirements for a seamless collaboration so I can spend more time working on your songs and less time fixing potential problems.

By purchasing mixing and mastering services through EdThorne.com, you acknowledge and agree to be bound by the following Terms and Conditions.

MIXING REQUIREMENTS

  • A rough mix/vision of your song(s). This helps me dial in your intended levels, panning, and placement.

  • A link to at least 1 reference track which represents your sonic vision for the project.

  • The tempo of each song.

  • Key signatures.

  • Time signatures (if not 4/4).

  • A tempo map if tempo, key and time signatures are variable.

FILE PREPARATION FOR MIXING

  • PLEASE NOTE(!): All editing, quantising and vocal tuning must be done prior to file delivery! I charge £75/hour for additional work like this, which may delay the estimated project delivery date and increase the project price. This work does not fall under my mixing quote!

  • All audio files delivered as .WAV files - not Mp3s!

  • All tracks at the same bit-depth (24-bit) and sample rate (44.1/48/96kHz).

  • All tracks at the same tempo.

  • All tracks in the same key.

  • All tracks exported as audio files and not regions!

  • All tracks start at the same bar/position!

  • All MIDI instruments bounced as audio files.

  • Audio files must not be clipped (exceeding 0dB sample peak).

  • Audio must be of a good recording standard, free of noise, buzzing, clipping, and artefacts.

  • Instrument effects can be printed with the audio, for example, if you have a specific sound integral to the production, such as a guitar reverb/delay, or synth effect. Alternatively, the effects bus can be printed separately, labelled accordingly and sent with the audio files.

  • Vocal effects must be printed separately and not baked into the vocal parts!

  • Label all files concisely and accurately with any useful additional descriptions. For example:

    • Lead Vocal, Lead Vocal Double Left/Right, Chorus Harmony 1/High,  Snare Top, Snare Bottom, Bass Amp, Bass DI, Guitar Rhythm, Guitar Lead, Guitar Solo, etc.

    • Please avoid track numbers, “Artist Name - Song Title - File Name”, “Take 7_01bip”, or generic names like “Tops Stem”.

  • Place all files into one folder. Please do not split them up into different instrument group folders!

  • All files must be checked for the above. I reserve the right to refuse a project if the above standards are not in place!

MIX INCLUSIONS*

  • Unlimited Revisions of the stereo mix (within 30 days). NOTE: This does not include auditioning production decisions!

  • Full stereo mix.

  • All files delivered at 24-bit/48kHz.

OPTIONAL EXTRAS*

  • Alternative mix versions WITH mix bus processing (+ £50 for all three)

    • Instrumental

    • A Capella

    • Backing Track (full mix minus lead vocal, but including backing vocals)

  • Individual instrument/bus stems (+ £50 for all three)

    • Drums, Bass, Acoustic Guitars, Electric Guitars, Lead Guitars, Organs, Synths, Strings, Brass, SFX, Lead Vocal, Backing Vocals.

  • Mastering of these alternative versions (+ £50 for all three)

  • Individual instrument/bus stems WITH mix bus processing (+ £50 for all)

*NOTE: Instrument/bus stems and alternative versions of the mix will be delivered after the main stereo mix has been signed off! Any revisions after this will be chargeable at £75/hr (1-hr minimum charge).

MASTERING REQUIREMENTS

  • A stereo .WAV of your mix.

  • Clearly labelled “Artist Name - Song Name - Mix for Mastering”.

  • Audio files must not be clipped (exceeding 0dB sample peak).

  • Audio must be of a good standard, free of noise, buzzing, clipping, and artefacts.

  • If I am mixing your song(s), there is no need to worry about this as I will have the file(s) on my system.

MASTERING INCLUSIONS

  • Stereo master of the main mix.

  • Two (2) revisions per master.

  • Versions included (all .WAVs):

    • Hi-Resolution (32-bit/96kHz)

    • Streaming (24-bit/48kHz)

    • CD (16-bit/44.1kHz, 16-bit Dither)

    • Radio (16-bit/48kHz)

    • YouTube Music Video (16-bit/48kHz, -14LUFS Integrated, -1dB Peak)

    • Vinyl Master (24-bit/48kHz, -1dB Peak)

  • Stem mastering available (£200)

LIMITATIONS & EXPECTATIONS

  • Swapping or adding files after your quote has been accepted and work has commenced on the project will be chargeable per hour of additional work required to get the project back to its preceding state.

CREDITS

  • All mixing and/or mastering credits must be included in metadata and social media posts. Please tag @TheEdThorne.

SUGGESTIONS

  • I suggest recording at 24 bits with a sample rate of 48kHz. This is not essential; if you have already recorded at 44.1, this is not a problem, merely something to consider for future projects.

CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS

1. Who These Terms Apply To.

These terms apply to anyone who books and pays for my services through this website.

2. Your Booking

Payment is taken in full when you book, and that is the point the contract is made. Your work slot is reserved from then. Quoted turnaround times start on the day your files arrive and meet my delivery requirements — not the day you pay.

3. Changing Your Mind

You have 14 days from the day after you book to cancel. Email Ed@EdThorne.com. The amount refunded depends on what stage the work has got to:

  • Not started — full refund.

  • Started but not delivered — refund less a fair amount for the work already done.

  • Delivered — no refund.

  • A £25 admin fee and any transaction costs will be deducted from the returned amount.

When you book, you tick a box asking me to schedule your work inside those 14 days, and accepting that the right to cancel ends once your audio is delivered. Refunds go back to your original payment method within 14 days.

Business bookings — labels, studios and companies — do not carry this 14-day right. Clauses 4 and 5 apply instead.

4. Mastering

Once a master has been delivered, it is not refundable.

5. Project Kill Fee

Every mix includes unlimited revisions, and I always intend to keep working until you are happy. If, in the unlikely scenario, somewhere in the revision process, we both agree in writing that we are not going to settle on a direction that works for the song, we can terminate the project there:

  • I keep 50% of the mixing fee.

  • The other 50% is refunded, less the card processing fees on your original payment (which are not returned to me when I issue the refund) and a £25 admin fee.

  • Any mastering on the same booking is refunded in full — no master will have been made.

  • No stems or versions of the mix will be delivered, and nothing already sent to you during the project may be used or released.

This only happens if we both agree in writing. Neither of us can force it on the other.

6. What is Not Refundable

  • Files that do not meet my delivery requirements. I will tell you before I start and give you a chance to resupply. Editing, tuning or repair work that was not part of the booking is £75 an hour, agreed with you first.

  • A change of direction after you have approved a mix or master. I am happy to make further changes — as a new booking.

  • Abandoned bookings. If what I need has not arrived within 60 days of payment, the booking is closed and not refundable. I will chase you twice first.

  • Not liking the result, where the work was done properly and answered the brief you gave me.

7. Your Rights

Nothing above affects your right, under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, to work carried out with reasonable care and skill.
